FAQ

  • Because sometimes it feels hard to do the work you know you need to do to get to your goals, and sometimes it feels hard or impossible to swim against the popular current, and sometimes people in power will demonize anyone who works against their hegemony by calling them “evil.”

Necessary Evil is the best term I could think of to describe that painful edge you need to stay at in order to actually grow or make a change.

  • I fundamentally believe that we should get to be our whole selves in the world, and that some of the best political praxis emerges from the experience of physically pursuing goals. I know from my acrobatics, handstand, and strength training that pushing through plateaus is great practice for feeling frustrated with the political status quo but staying engaged and working toward change, so to me, physical training and political training go hand-in-hand.

You certainly don’t have to do both to work with me! But I believe both are avenues toward learning how to put your values into practice.

  • I believe in economic accessibility and equity, so I offer all of my services with tiered pricing or on a sliding scale. Unfortunately, I have to pay rent, so I can’t give away all my time for free, BUT I strive to make my offerings accessible regardless of financial circumstances with differing pricing levels and the ability to pay in interest-free installments.

When you’re choosing which tier applies to you, consider your circumstances:

    • what are your non-negotiable financial obligations?

    • do you have stable income (e.g., salary) or other sources of financial support?

    • what tradeoffs do you face—what would you have to give up in order for us to work together at a given rate?

You can read more about how I do my pricing and why on my Pricing page, but if you have more questions always feel free to reach out directly or set up a consultation to talk it through!

  • I offer some insights and analysis in my writing, my resource collection, and on social media.

  • Of course! Lots of people don’t think of themselves as athletes anymore, especially if they don’t play competitive sports regularly. But if you’re a person who has experience training consistently, has some physical practice you engage in regularly, or has a consistent relationship with some movement practice, we can still find ways to work together.

I'm especially excited to work with folks who have recovered or are recovering from injuries,* have long-term illnesses or disabilities, engage with the world through non-normative neurotypes, or have bodies that have been marginalized and subjected to racialized, gendered, or sexual oppression.

*I’m not a medical professional and not qualified to do physical therapy work with folks in acute stages of recovery, so make sure you’re physically ready to get back into training before we work together.

  • All of my offerings can be tailored to meet many accessibility needs. I have experience with clients with a variety of neurotypes, chronic illness experiences, hearing and visual impairments, or physical limitations from injury or disability, and I am excited to adapt and attune my offerings to meet your needs.

My handstand and acro classes, as well as many of my private sessions, take place at the Chicago Center for Dynamic Circus. CCDC has limited accessibility from public transit; free street parking is available. The building is accessible from street level with no steps. The facility has 2 single-user restrooms and does allow children in the space who are actively supervised. Lighting and noise levels during evening hours may be stressful for clients with sensory sensitivities; clients with sensory needs should reach out so we can try to find a location and time that is suitable.

I wear an N95 mask during all in-person sessions out of care and consideration for my health and the health and safety of my community; you are welcome and encouraged (but not required) to do the same. CCDC does not currently require masking, testing, or vaccination.

I also offer virtual opportunities via Zoom, and am flexible with cancellations and rescheduling needs if you are feeling ill. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any specific questions or accommodation requests.
